Canker sores in Prescott, Arizona, can be inconvenient, annoying, and extremely bothersome, but oftentimes there’s not much you can do about them. However, our Prescott Dental Group team is happy to tell you that there are four things you can do to relieve your pain. Those things are:
-Avoid foods that can irritate your mouth and sore, like citrus, acidic, and spicy foods.
-Gum can also irritate your canker sore, which is why it’s best to avoid chewing gum.
-Keep up on oral hygiene each day. Brush your teeth every morning and every night with a soft-bristled toothbrush and floss your smile at least once a day. Doing these things will help keep food particles and debris from irritating the sore.
-Visit your dentist if these tips are not helpful. Your dentist might prescribe antimicrobial mouthwash, corticosteroid ointment, or over-the-counter solution to reduce your pain.
If you have any questions about the ways you can treat your canker sore, please don’t be afraid to ask your dentist, or a member of our dental team. We also encourage you to call 928-277-4754 and schedule an appointment as soon as possible if the sore is unusually large, if it has started to spread, if it provides intolerable pain, or if you have a difficult time drinking liquids. Our dental team will be happy to examine your smile and give you the treatment and care you need.
